RHS Garden Harlow Carr - Harrogate

RHS Garden Harlow Carr

Harlow Carr Garden is very relaxing and the beautiful 58 acres of gardens blend in sympathetically with the surrounding Yorkshire landscape. The location is on the B6162 just one mile from the famouse spa town of Harrogate and at the gateway to the Dales.

Take a relaxing stroll along the lush Streamside Garden and take inspiration from 200 years of gardening in Gardens through Time. Pick up practical ideas from the new Kitchen Garden and take glorious deep breaths in the beautiful scented garden. The new Alpine House is not to be missed, as it is the largest of any of the RHS Gardens and is home to a selection of the Harlow Carr Alpine collection made up of over 2000 plants.

In addition there are the seasonal displays such as we witnessed with the breathtaking annual Tulip Festival, containing every colour you could imagine.

Harlow Carr was acquired by the RHS as part of the merger with the Northern Horticultural Society in 2001. The gardens stand on what was once the Forest of Knaresborough, an ancient royal hunting ground. It was originally set up in 1950 as a trial ground to establish the suitability of plants for growing in northern climates.
